I’m Giuseppe Manzoli, an Italian private chef based in Scotland. Dunfermline and West Fife are an easy run for me, and they’re a quietly brilliant part of the country to cook in — close to Edinburgh and the Forth bridges, full of large self-catering houses, and far less crowded with private chefs than St Andrews or the East Neuk.

I bring the ingredients, the equipment, and the service. I cook in whatever kitchen your house has, plate and serve each course, and leave the kitchen exactly as I found it. The evening belongs to your guests, not the cooking.

Why West Fife suits a private chef

A lot of West Fife celebrations centre on a rented house. Groups book a big property near Dunfermline, Aberdour or the Loch Leven side for a long weekend — often with a hot tub, room for ten or more, and an hour’s reach of Edinburgh airport — and want at least one evening to feel like an occasion.

That’s exactly where a private chef fits. Instead of a supermarket shop and someone tied to the oven all night, you get restaurant-quality food brought to the table, course by course, with no clean-up afterwards. For a self-catering weekend it turns a good house into a proper celebration.

A weekend dinner near Dunfermline — how it usually runs

The most common booking here is the centrepiece dinner on a self-catering weekend. The group arrives Friday, settles in, and books me for the Saturday evening. I arrive in the afternoon, prep quietly while everyone’s out walking or relaxing, then serve a four- or five-course Italian dinner once the table’s set.

Nobody has to leave the house, dress up, or worry about a bill at the end of the night. Some groups add a relaxed Sunday lunch or a breakfast spread on top of the main dinner. It works for milestone birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, and the kind of family gathering that only happens once every few years.

A menu that works for the whole group

A typical menu runs three to five courses, designed around the group. Antipasti to share while people arrive, a fresh pasta course, a slow-cooked main built on Scottish produce, and a dessert that travels well to a self-catering kitchen.

Dietary needs are built in from the start, not bolted on. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, nut allergies, and religious requirements are all handled as standard — tell me when we first speak and the menu is designed around them from the outset.

What I cook

Italian techniques meet Scottish ingredients. Slow-cooked ragùs using Scottish beef. Fresh handmade pasta with local cream and butter. Aberdeen Angus fillet, slow-rendered and finished with a Barolo reduction, is one of my signatures. Every course is plated and served to the table the way it would be in a fine-dining restaurant — generous portions, no buffet trays.

If you’re weighing up venues across the wider area, my Fife private chef page covers the barns, castles and self-catering houses across the whole Kingdom. For the full picture of where I cook, see the Scottish venues directory, and for the format itself, the private dining page.

How a booking works

A booking starts with a phone call or message. We talk through the event — guest numbers, dietary needs, your house, and the kind of menu that would suit. Within 48 hours I send a proposed menu and a per-head price. Once you approve, I source the ingredients, arrive ahead of the meal, cook on site, plate and serve each course, and clean down before I leave.

Most bookings are confirmed 4–8 weeks ahead, but I can often take shorter notice midweek or outside high season.

What it costs

Private dinners run from £75 to £180 per person depending on the number of courses, the ingredients, the headcount, and any special requests. Group and multi-day menus are priced per event after we agree the menu, with a tailored quote sent within 24 hours of your enquiry.

The price covers menu design, ingredient sourcing, cooking, plating and service, and the full clean-down. VAT and travel within West Fife are included.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover Dunfermline and the West Fife villages?

Yes — Dunfermline, Inverkeithing, Aberdour, Burntisland, Culross, and the villages around them, through to the Kinross and Loch Leven edge. It’s an area I’m keen to cook in more.

Do you cook in self-catering houses and holiday lets?

Yes, that’s the most common booking here. I work in whatever kitchen the house has and bring anything specific it’s missing.

How far in advance should I book?

For private dinners and weekend bookings, 4–8 weeks is comfortable. Shorter notice is often possible midweek — call and ask.

Can you handle dietary requirements?

Yes — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, nut allergies, and religious dietary requirements are built into the menu from the start.
