I’m Giuseppe Manzoli, an Italian private chef based in Scotland. Fife is one of the areas I cook in most — and it suits the way I work. The Kingdom is full of beautiful places people rent for a weekend or a celebration: self-catering houses, converted steadings, barn wedding venues, and historic houses that look magnificent but were never built with a working kitchen in mind. That’s exactly where a private chef earns their place. I cook right across Scotland, from Moffat to the Cairngorms, and Fife is firmly on that map.
I bring the ingredients, the equipment, and the service. I cook in whatever kitchen you have — or, when there isn’t one, I bring what’s needed. The day belongs to your guests, not the cooking, and I leave the place exactly as I found it.
Why Fife works for a private chef
A lot of Fife celebrations happen in venues that hand you the keys and nothing else. A barn for a wedding. A castle for a family reunion. A big house by Loch Leven for a milestone birthday or a quiet retreat. The setting is stunning, but the catering is left entirely to you — and that’s where most hosts feel the pressure.

Bringing in a private chef solves it without turning the weekend into a logistics exercise. You get restaurant-quality food at the table, served course by course, with no caterer’s marquee, no clean-up, and no host stuck in the kitchen while everyone else enjoys the evening.
How a private chef booking in Fife works
A typical booking starts with a phone call or message. We talk through the event — how many guests, dietary needs, your venue or house, and the kind of menu that would suit. Within 48 hours I send a proposed menu and a per-head price. Once you approve, I source the ingredients (Scottish produce wherever possible), arrive ahead of the meal, cook on site, plate and serve each course, and clean down before I leave.
Most bookings are confirmed 4–12 weeks in advance, but I can often accommodate shorter notice — particularly midweek and outside high wedding season.
Cooking in barns, steadings and dry-hire venues
Fife has some of the best barn and steading wedding venues in Scotland — places like Kinkell Byre near St Andrews, The Cow Shed at Crail, and Falside Mill in the East Neuk. They share one thing: you bring everything, including the catering. A blank-canvas venue gives you total freedom over the day, but it also means no kitchen brigade waiting in the wings.
That’s the kind of venue I’m set up for. I plan service around the power, water and prep space the venue actually has — not the kitchen it doesn’t. I’ve worked in enough dry-hire spaces to know how to deliver multiple plated courses for a full party from a standing start, and how to keep the food unhurried while speeches and photographs run long. You can see the range of places I cook in on the Scottish venues directory.
The same applies to Fife’s historic venues. Castles such as Birkhill and Dairsie are extraordinary settings for a weddings or a private dinner, but they were never designed around a modern catering kitchen. I bring what the room can’t provide and work to the building, not against it.
Cooking in self-catering houses and group retreats
The most common Fife booking I get is the big self-catering house. Families and groups rent a large house for a long weekend — a Loch Leven–side property like Balgedie House, a West Fife base near Dunfermline, or one of the larger houses around Lundin Links and St Andrews that sleep ten to eighteen — and want one or two evenings to feel like an occasion rather than a takeaway.
For those weekends I usually cook the centrepiece dinner: a four- or five-course Italian menu, plated and served, while everyone stays at the table. Some groups add a relaxed family-style lunch or a breakfast spread on top. It works for milestone birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, retreats, and the kind of family gathering that only happens once every few years and deserves more than a tray bake.
Where I cook across Fife
Fife is compact, so I cover the whole Kingdom:
- St Andrews & the East Neuk — Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St Monans, Elie; barn venues, coastal cottages, and large self-catering houses
- Cupar & the Howe of Fife — Falkland, Ceres, Dairsie, and the country houses around them
- Loch Leven side — Kinross edge, Scotlandwell, Balgedie
- Glenrothes, Leven & Lundin Links — group houses and family celebrations
- Dunfermline & West Fife — a fast-growing area for private dining and self-catering retreats, with very little chef coverage so far
For a venue-specific example near St Andrews, see my write-up on cooking at Carphin House near St Andrews. If your venue sits just over a Fife boundary — into Perthshire, Kinross, or across the bridge — that’s usually no problem; we agree any travel when we plan the booking.
What I cook
The menus are built around what you and your guests want, but the recurring themes are Italian techniques meeting Scottish ingredients. Slow-cooked ragùs using Scottish beef. Fresh handmade pasta with local cream and butter. Seafood landed along the East Neuk coast. Aberdeen Angus fillet, slow-rendered and finished with a Barolo reduction, is one of my signatures.
Every course is delivered to the table the way it would be in a fine-dining restaurant — restaurant-style plating, not buffet trays, and generous portions. A typical celebration or private dining menu runs three to five courses, with options for vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free guests, and any allergies built into the menu from the start — not added as an afterthought.
What it costs
Private dinners run from £75 to £180 per person depending on the number of courses, the ingredients, the headcount, and any special requests. Wedding catering and multi-day retreat menus are priced per event after we agree the menu, with a tailored quote sent within 24 hours of your enquiry.
The price covers menu design, ingredient sourcing, cooking, plating and service, and the full clean-down. VAT is included; travel within Fife is included, with anything further afield agreed up front.
Frequently asked questions
Do you cook in self-catering houses and holiday lets?
Yes — large self-catering houses are my most common Fife booking. I work in whatever kitchen the house has, and if it’s missing something specific (a particular oven, a sous-vide bath, an extra pan), I bring it.
Can you cook at a barn or dry-hire venue with no kitchen?
Yes. Dry-hire barns, steadings and kitchenless castles are a regular part of what I do. Tell me the venue and I’ll plan the service around the power, water and prep space available. I bring the rest.
How far in advance should I book?
For weddings, ideally 3–6 months. For private dinners and retreat weekends, 4–8 weeks is comfortable. I can sometimes do shorter notice — call me and ask.
Do you cover Dunfermline and West Fife as well as St Andrews?
Yes, the whole Kingdom — from the East Neuk through to Dunfermline and the West Fife villages. West Fife in particular is an area I’m keen to cook in more.
Can you handle dietary requirements?
Yes — gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, nut allergies, and religious dietary requirements are built into the menu from the start. Mention them when we first speak.
Do you stay through the evening?
For weddings and longer events, yes. I stay until the meal service is complete and the kitchen is clean. You shouldn’t have to think about the cooking once your guests have arrived.
